Lefka Ori - White Mountain - Pachnes
The White Mountains (Lefka Ori) are Crete’s largest and wildest mountain range, with more than 50 peaks over 2,000m. The highest is Pachnes, at 2,453m, offering breathtaking views of both the Libyan and Mediterranean Sea. From Anopoli, we drive 25km with a 4×4 up to 2,000m altitude, and then continue with a 1.5–2 hour hike to the summit. Along the way, you’ll see shepherds’ stone huts (mitata) and the unique lunar-like landscape of the Madares. Our experienced guides will lead you safely to the top, making this an unforgettable adventure in Crete’s wild nature.
Aradena Gorge
Aradena is the deepest gorge in Chania, with cliffs reaching 138m. Famous for its iron bridge – the highest bungee jumping spot in Greece – the gorge is also ideal for hiking. Starting from the abandoned village of Aradena, the trail descends to the gorge bed and continues for about 2.5 hours until it reaches the stunning Marmara beach, where the turquoise waters of the Libyan Sea await. Along the way, hikers pass dramatic rock formations, old stone paths, and traces of forgotten villages. For those seeking adventure and natural beauty, the Aradena Gorge is one of Crete’s most unforgettable experiences.
Kavis Gorge
The Iligas (or Kavis) Gorge begins at the Anopoli plateau and ends at the beautiful Iligas beach, just west of Chora Sfakion. Though one of the largest and wildest gorges in Sfakia, it remains little known to visitors. The trek takes about three hours, passing through cypress forests, narrow passages, and old stone paths once used to connect Anopoli with the coast. Along the way, you will see the ruined village of Mouri, a 700-year-old chapel with frescoes, and hidden springs. The hike is suitable even for families, and the reward at the end is a refreshing swim in the clear waters of Iligas beach.
